Using Video To Bring A Product To Life (Literally)

September 4, 2018

Every product has a personality, it might just need a little help to express itself.

The legendary Helen Dillon is an extraordinarily gifted gardener.

One of her unique talents is her ability to assign personalities to plants, characteristics that uncannily and totally fit. A plant might be showy, or a little bit shy. Maybe it's sorrowful-looking or bursting with excitement. It might have a huge ego or it might be a shrinking violet.

She assigns intricate characters, habits, likes and dislikes, to - not quite inanimate - but non-sentient-common-or-garden-plants.

If you've got a product that you're struggling to bring to life on video, you might get some inspiration from her. Ask yourself, what kind of person would my product be? Funny or serious? Loud or quiet? Cheeky or sensible?

This video is an excellent lesson in how to take something inanimate, in this case a bow tie, and inject it with a personality of its own with a voice to match.

When you break down the personality of your product, it's a lot easier to get the product to tell its own story. Even a plant has a story to tell.
